Many times people know they should pray, or feel they need to, but don’t really know how to get started. Here is a simple acronym to serve as a starting place.
Focus: Prepare mentally to pray. God will take prayer as seriously as you do
Adjust: Reflect on the greatness of God, not yourself or your problems.
Confession: This breaks down any barriers between yourself and God.
Thanksgiving: Give thanks to God that you are alive, and any other reasons you can think of.
Save your requests for last: Asking God for help comes after we realize who God is and how good God is.
When you read any part of the Bible ask yourself these four questions:
What do I learn about God?
What do I learn about myself?
What do I learn about how God works in the world?
What will I do differently because of what I’ve read?
